The Mars Fire Red Tail is one of the best every day carry bowies you can find due to its medium size, timeless design, and comfortable horizontal carry sheath. The 4 inch blade and handle make this knife easy to carry and maneuver in a number of situations while still allowing enough blade for batoning, light chopping and efficient food preparation . As for the Bowie clip point, I’ve modified the classic clipped design just slightly by accentuating the crest of the clip point and lowering the tip. The accentuated crest of the clip point allows for a bit more steel towards the tip of the blade, creating a more hefty feeling blade in the hand, and increasing the width (and thus the cutting capability) of the point. The Red Tail also has a fairly shallow clip point which leaves the point just below the center-line of the knife. This allows for extremely dexterous use of the point in a wide range of applications and also increases the overall cutting efficiency of the blade, as the diminished belly of a lowered point allows for more force to be applied to the blade when cutting.

   The Red Tail, is completely hand forged and ground (as are all the knives at Mars fire) and boasts a full distal taper (greatly improving balance and cutting performance), convex ground blade, and differential heat treating. All of these elements ensure your Red Tail is going to be balanced, durable, and deliver cutting performance like you simply won’t see in most factory knives.

   This whole hand crafted package rides comfortable and effortlessly in one of my horizontal leather carry sheaths. A horizontal sheath disappears under any shirt, is east to draw and resheath sitting, standing, or lying down, never gets in the way while you’re working or going about the day, and snaps on and off easily without having to remove the belt. This is my preferred method of carry for a knife of this size, but, of course, if you’d prefer I can make a horizontal sheath.
