Kestrel $165-$200

Sometimes people ask what you’d use a Kestrel for. My only answer is to go visit Bolzano Italy and ask Otzi what he used his 2 inch blade for. The answer is, of course, everything. The Kestrel is an extremely handy little blade and you’ll find yourself using it for all sorts of tasks. Peeling fruit, stripping wire, cutting cordage, rope or straps, buttering toast, prying open paint cans, cleaning game, cutting milk jugs and cardboard, the list goes on and on. The reason you’ll use it for everything isn’t just because you’ll fall in love with it’s diminutive yet practical design, or even just because, thanks to it’s finely honed convex edge, it cuts better than any knife you’ve used before. No, you’ll use it for everything because you’ll always have it on you! It weighs less than 3 ounces and virtually disappears underneath even a light t-shirt. You’ll forget it’s there until you remember it’s there, and then you’ll be happy it’s there.
However you’d be mistaken to think the function of the Kestrel is limited soley to utility use. In a life or death situation, it can be used as a stunningly effective weapon. Because of it’s full taper and excellent edge geometry it effortlessly glides through denim, thick canvas, and even leather. Its aggressive bowie-style point lends itself to maximum penetration, and because it’s light it can deliver life-saving cuts and thrust in rapid succession, making it exponentially useful during a life or death scuffle. There’s not a man alive who could stand up to a determined and knowledgeable defender armed with a Mars Fire Kestrel.
As with all Mars Fire knives, the Kestrel comes with a properly honed convex blade, shallow enough to make deep aggressive cuts like a flat ground blade, and yet robust enough to hold it’s edge and endure abuse like a saber ground blade. The Kestrel is also deferentially tempered with a hardened edge and softened spine to ensure maximum durability, even in this small and thin blade. Order one with leather, wood, or micarta handle and with any number of the sheath options. You’ll be glad you did.
