Jackdaw $435

The Mars Fire Jackdaw is essentailly a kukri shrunken down for every day use. After making this knife and using it for a while I was surprised at how scalable the kukri design truly is. While one would think the large recurve may only be effective in a larger and heavier blade capable of chopping, I found it had significant advantaged when produced on a small scale. Firstly, the recurve section is just amazing for capturing and cutting all sorts of material. It bites agressively through any sort of cordage, tracks easily and slices finely when making feather sticks, or creating notches for bushcraft, and envelopes and dispatches cardboard or plastics when performing a longer drawing or pushing cut. Once you starting using this inwardly curved portion of the blade, you’ll find it’s perfect for all sorts of uses.

Additionally the blade widens out towads the belly producing a characteristically weight forward feel. Even in a small blade of 4.5 inches this still allows for efficient light chopping, completely adiquate for taking down small sapplings, and delimbing branchecs.

Finally, the recurve design places the blade very low with respect to the overall profile of the knife, which I find allows great accessability for using the point. Another  bonus of this is, when being used for food prep, the tip and bellow contact whatever you’re cutting while the hand is still well above the cutting board. This allows for great slicing and cutting when preparing meat, vegetables, or snacks on a cutting baord.

Add a convex edge, ergonomic handle, distal taper, and differnential heat treating to this blade design and you have an extremely effective edc tool, camp knife, or even a defensive blade. And as always, this knife is created by hand, made to order, and each one is a piece 100% unique unto itself.
